THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Electricity Regulatory Commission has directed that reconnection should not be denied citing trivial reasons in case of disconnection of electricity due to non-payment of bills and other irregularities. The new supply code including this was released yesterday.
The new supply code has been issued by timely revision of the exact provisions regarding charging of electricity rates, disconnection and restoration etc. KSEB should implement the electricity distribution system according to this.

As per the new code, applications for new connection, reconnection, connection modification, tariff modification etc. can be made online. Action should be taken as soon as the application is received and can be delayed up to a week in difficult locations. The required amount should be informed at the time of application. At present, the officials should visit the applicant's house within 45 days, conduct an inspection and then inform the required amount according to the availability of equipment.

If the electricity consumption for starting a small business is below 4 kilowatts, these companies can be started using the home connection itself. There is no need to get new commercial connections for that. The new code also proposes to start more electricity charging stations.
