NEW DELHI: As heavy rains continue, the death toll in the basement of the building where the Civil Service Academy is running has risen to three. One of them is a girl. Fourteen people trapped in the basement were rescued. The National Disaster Response Force and the Delhi Fire Force led the rescue operation. There is a rumour that some people are missing, but no confirmation has been received.
Water entered the building of Rao IAS Study Circle in West Delhi's Rajender Nagar yesterday evening. During the heavy rain, the water entered the basement. The students who were sitting in the basement library were the victims of the accident. It is believed that the students rushed to get out of the building and fell into the water.
Around 7 pm, Delhi Police and Fire and Disaster Management personnel arrived on information that the students were trapped in the basement. Many students who had come to attend special weekend classes were trapped inside the building at the time. Most of them were rescued. The bodies were found during the search conducted by the mission team.
It has been raining heavily in Delhi for two days. Therefore, the whole area of the building is flooded. Delhi Minister Atishi Marlena has ordered an inquiry into the incident and submit a report.
At the same time, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj alleged that the failure to clean the drains and remove the soil in the area led to the disaster. Bansuri said that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and local MLA Durgesh Patha are responsible for the tragedy.
