THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain expected in the state today. Orange alert has been declared in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod. Chance of very heavy rain at isolated places is forecast. Heavy rains mean 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm rainfall in 24 hours, according to the Central Meteorological Department.
Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad are on yellow alert. Chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rainfall is defined by the Central Meteorological Department as rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are also expected.
The rain will continue in the coming days. Yellow alert is in effect in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod tomorrow, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod the next day and Kannur and Kasaragod on Wednesday.
People living in danger zones should be cautious as there is a possibility of severe storm surge along various coasts. The authorities also warned that those who live in unsecured houses and those who live in houses with weak roofs should be ready to relocate based on the warnings in the coming days.
