THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Orange alert has been announced in five districts as rain continues to be heavy in the northern districts. Central Meteorological Department has announced orange alert in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Chance of very heavy rain at isolated places is forecast. 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall will be received in 24 hours.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert. Yellow alert has been announced in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on July 31 and August 1. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm rainfall will be received in 24 hours. There is also a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning. Meanwhile, a red alert has been declared at Banasura Sagar dam as the water level reached 773 meters. Once it reaches 773.50, excess water will flow out.

People living in danger zones are advised to be cautious as there is a possibility of strong sea storms along various coasts. They should be ready to relocate if necessary. Fishing facilities should be secured.
