THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A holiday has been declared in five districts of the state tomorrow due to heavy rains. The District Collectors have announced a holiday for educational institutions including professional colleges in Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Ernakulam and Idukki districts on Tuesday (30-7-2024). Along with this, educational institutions of Kodenchery, Puthuppady, Thiruvambady and Koorachunde gram panchayats of Kozhikode will also be closed tomorrow.
The holiday is applicable to Anganwadis, Nurseries, Kendriya Vidyalayas, CBSE and ICSE Schools, Professional Colleges, Tuition Centres, etc. The leave is not applicable to residential institutions/courses. Thrissur District Collector informed that there will be no change in pre-scheduled exams and interviews. Four shutters of Peechi Dam in Thrissur were opened today due to heavy rain.
In Malappuram, a holiday has been announced tomorrow for educational institutions in Nilambur, Ernad and Kondotti taluks.
In view of the heavy rains in the hilly areas of Kannur district, the District Collector has announced a holiday tomorrow (July 30, 2024) for educational institutions including Anganwadis, Madrasahs, Professional Colleges and tuition classes in Thalassery, Iritty and Taliparamba taluk limits.
Orange alert has been declared in five districts as the rains continue to be heavy in the northern districts. IMD has announced orange alert in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Chance of very heavy rain at isolated places is forecast. 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rainfall is predicted in 24 hours.
