IDUKKI: Periyar is overflowing as heavy rains continue in the state. According to official records, this is the highest water level in the river since the heavy rains of 2019. The roof of the Aluva Shiva temple, situated on the banks of the Periyar river, got submerged on Tuesday.
15 shutters of Bhoothathankettu dam are currently open. All this water is discharged to Periyar, thus inundating the low-lying areas of Aluva. The four shutters of the Kallarkutty Dam have been raised by 90 cm each. Caution is advised on the banks of the Muthirapuzha and Periyar rivers. The Central Water Commission has announced orange and yellow alerts in case of a dangerous rise in the water level in these rivers.
The Central Water Commission has announced an orange alert for the rivers Kaliyar (Kalampur station) in Ernakulam district, Keechery(Kottapuram station) in Thrissur district, Pulamthod (Pulamanthole station) in Palakkad district and Kuttiyadi (Kutiyadi station) in Kozhikode district.
Karamana (Vellaikadavu station) in Thiruvananthapuram district, Pampa (Madamon station) in Pathanamthitta district, Thodupuzha (Manakkad station) in Idukki district, Gayatri (Kondazhi station) in Thrissur district, Chalakudy (Arangali station), Chaliyar (Perumbadavam station) in Malappuram district, Kureepuzha (Chakkalakuth istation) in Malappuram district.
