THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of the natural calamity at Chooralmala in Wayanad, the state government has announced official mourning on July 30 and 31. The government expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and damage to property in the Wayanad landslide. The chief secretary informed that during the mourning period, the national flag should be flown at half-mast in the entire state and public programmes and celebratory functions scheduled by the government should be postponed.


Food and Civil Supplies Minister G R Anil expressed deep grief and condolence over the loss of lives in the landslide. Officials of the Public Distribution Department and Supplyco have been instructed to ensure all necessary support for the relief activities concerning the district administration.


The minister informed that the department has taken all measures to ensure the supply of food grains and essential items to the camps. The minister instructed to ensure the services of the supply-food and public distribution department officials in the district and nearby districts and to take steps on a wartime basis to deliver essential items to the relief camps.


In the wake of the Wayanad-Mundakkai and Chooralmala disaster, the second convocation of digital university Kerala scheduled to be held tomorrow (31-7-24) has been postponed to another day.
