MEPPADI: While trying to save a child who was swept away by the torrential water, Prajitha lost her own daughter. While trying to save the child from the water, Prajitha's daughter Ahanya (10) was snatched from her hand by the current. Prajita, her mother Shobha and her husband's father Appu are in WIMS Hospital with serious injuries. Prajita has severe injuries on her face and thigh bone. Shobha has a rib injury.

Their house and the adjoining homestay were behind Chooralmala Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School. Disaster struck at the location was believed to be a safe zone in Chooralmala. Following the rains of the past few days, all the people in the higher areas of Chooralmala and Mundakayam were housed in this school. This was also the safest place in the region. No one thought that such a disaster would happen here.

Prajita remembers hearing a loud noise while sleeping. Suddenly, water came pouring through the door and window. By the time she tried to open the door and escape, the water had reached her. She was holding onto the broken tree branches. Prajita's daughter Ahanya slipped away while she was saving another child who was floating in the water. Two of the four Odisha natives who were in her homestay have gone missing. Prajita's husband is in the Middle East.
