THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A rape case has been filed against the husband of the Vanchiyoor shooting case victim on the complaint of the arrested female doctor.

In the statement given to the police, it is said that while working together in Kollam in August 2021, Sujith forcibly molested the female doctor inside the quarters. After this, Sujith abruptly ended the friendship. Since the incident took place before the new criminal laws came into force, the case has been charged under Sections 376 and 354 of the IPC. The case has been filed on charges of sexual harassment, insulting womanhood and rape.

Since the incident took place in Kollam, the FIR will be forwarded to Kannanallur station. After filing the FIR in the Kollam court, the complainant will undergo a medical examination. Kannanallur police will take further action after recording their detailed statement.

The air gun used for the attack is doubted to be in the quarters of Parippally Medical College. Following this, the room was locked and sealed by the police. The suspect who is in custody will be taken to the quarters and the gun will be seized.

The suspect will also be taken to the firm in Ernakulam where the fake number plate was produced for the car. The investigation team said that the custody application will be filed today in the 11th Court of First Class Judicial Magistrate, Vanchiyoor. The accused's mobile phone was seized and sent to the forensic lab for examination.

The accused had initially denied involvement in the attack but soon changed her stance after the police threatened to disclose the details to the media. In the one-and-a-half hour of interrogation, the female doctor admitted to the crime and said about planning it almost one year ago.

The police found that the accused went to Maldives in June to meet Sujith. Both of them had been courting for almost three years and it is reported that Sujith had also proposed marriage to the accused.

Despite the travel to Maldives during April, Sujith was unmoved and was hesitant to resume the old courtship. He also ignored the messages from the doctor which morphed into rage and soon ended in a gun attack in Thiruvananthapuram’s Vanchiyoor.
