MEPPADI: Uma Balakrishnan, a resident of Chooralmala School Road, and her family had fled for their lives when the landslide occurred. While running for her life, she had also held her pet dog close to her chest. However, by the time they reached Chooralmala town, Uma understood that she could not run very far with the dog. They ran for their lives during the second landslide that occurred around 3 am. They left the dog at Chooralmala town when they reached there. They abandoned this mute animal in the belief that someone would provide it with food.
Uma and her family have been in the relief camp in Meppadi for a week. After the rain subsided, Uma reached Chooralmala on Sunday in search of her dog. Seeing her from a distance, the dog ran towards her. What was seen later was a display of love between mother and son. Video of the dog's expression of love is going viral on social media.
The dog huddled around Uma, whimpering and shedding tears. Uma patted the dog's head and wiped away the tears, making everyone's eyes wet. After spending some time with the dog, Uma returned to the relief camp. It was also a sad sight that the pet dog ran for kilometers after Uma's vehicle which returned without him.
