KALPETTA: The burial of the yet-to-be-identified victims of the Wayanad Mundakkai and Chooralmala landslides is in progress at Puthumala. 200 mass graves have been prepared for them. Funeral arrangements are in progress. The bodies of 27 people and the body parts of 154 people are being buried. Funeral rites are being conducted with interfaith prayers in the presence of health workers and volunteers.

Each body part will be buried as a separate corpse. The dead bodies will be buried and prayers and last rites will be performed according to the Christian religion, then according to the Hindu religion and finally according to the Islamic religion. The death toll in the Mundakkai landslide has reached 402. 180 body parts were recovered from underground and Chaliyar river.

The official death toll is 222. 180 people are still to be found. Eight of the unidentified bodies were cremated yesterday. The cremation of the remaining bodies took place today. 91 people who were injured in the landslide are still undergoing treatment in the hospital. 2514 people who lost their homes are living in relief camps. Today's search is over. The state government has decided to continue the search process until the army decides.

The funeral ceremony became the sorrow for the state. Relatives and loved ones are going through a situation where dont know if the corpses and body parts covered in water cloths belong to their loved ones.
