KOLLAM: Minister V Sivankutty said that education will resume in the disaster area of ​​Wayanad within 20 days. The Minister was speaking to the media after the south region file adalat of the Department of General Education.

"Even if classes start in schools, counselling of children will be more important than academics. At present, counselling is being done in camps. More counselors will be appointed by the time the classes start. Actor Mohanlal, who visited the place, offered help in rebuilding the disaster-hit schools. This matter will be discussed with Mohanlal."

"The printing of textbooks for the children coming to school from the camps is nearing completion. Measures have been taken to quickly provide education records to those who have lost them. GVHSS Vellarmala and GLPS Mundakai schools have been heavily damaged in the landslides. The government's immediate objective is to restore these schools. Vellarmala school will be made a model school and built to withstand natural calamities."

A high-level meeting will be held today in Wayanad to discuss issues related to children's education. Ministers, Collector, Education Department employees and local department officials will participate.

The number of children missing or dead in the Wayanad disaster is 53. Of these, 18 have been confirmed dead. 35 children have not been found.
