injection

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finding that there was serious medical malpractice in the incident where an 11-year-old who sought treatment for fever at Thycaud Hospital was given the wrong injection. A detailed investigation revealed that the injection was given by a student who had come for training at the hospital. The child was given the first injection as per the doctor's prescription. Following this, the staff nurse filled the syringe with the medicine which was supposed to be given to another patient and placed it on the table. The NHM nurse was instructed to give it to the patient. The NHM nurse was handing the syringe to the student.

When the student came to inject the child, the relatives said that he had just taken an injection, but the student did not clarify the matter as it was a senior nurse who had asked her to give the injection. Once the medicine is filled in the syringe, it should be injected immediately. The syringe should not be left somewhere or passed to anyone.
It is pointed out in the report that those who were on duty on the day of the incident had forgotten even the basic lessons in nursing studies such as those who fill the medicine in the syringe should be the one who gives the injection.
The action was taken when it was found that a lapse which should never have happened had occurred and medical negligence was evident in the incident. Meanwhile, the scientific test results to find out whether the medicine prescribed by the doctor was given to the child have not been received. The health department will take further steps after receiving the explanation from the nursing superintendent.
It has been alleged that the son of a native of Kannammoola was injected with the wrong medicine in Thycaud Hospital on July 30th. Following the injection, the child developed chest pain and vomiting, and was admitted to SAT in critical condition, and is currently on a ventilator in the intensive care unit.
