KALPETTA: Senior Congress leader A K Antony said that he will donate Rs 50,000 to the chief minister's relief fund for rehabilitation efforts in the landslide-hit Wayanad. The former chief minister said that all should forget their differences and unite for Wayanad.


Antony while talking to the media said, ‘The unprecedented tragedy that happened in Wayanad has not happened before in the history of Kerala. He requested to forget politics and other thoughts and donate generously to the chief minister's relief fund for rehabilitating the families affected by the disaster. I had donated more money to all the old floods while was serving as an MP. I don’t have the ability to give more now. However, giving a cheque of Rs 50,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.'


Rs 72 crore have reached the chief minister's relief fund so far for Wayanad. This is the figure from July 30. Rahul Gandhi, opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, had informed that the Congress would build 100 houses for the kin of those dead in the Wayanad disaster. Rahul made the announcement while talking to the media after interacting with the representatives of Meppadi Panchayat. Congress working committee member Ramesh Chennithala had also said that he would give his one month's salary to the chief minister's relief fund.


People staying in the relief camps cannot go home immediately or rebuild their homes in the disaster zone. Opposition leader V D Satheesan also said that till they find another place and build a house, a system will be prepared to find rental houses and pay rent to them.
