KALPETTA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Chooralmala, the landslide hit area in Wayanad, and took stock of the situation. The Prime Minister reached Chooralmala by road from Kalpetta and left after 2 pm from there. His first visit was to Vellarmala school. The prime minister's first request was to see the school.
On reaching the school road, Modi asked about the children affected by the landslide. Chief Secretary Dr V Venu explained about the children's studies and other things. Modi asked about the problems faced by children, their future, orphaned children, how many children died and how many children were rescued. He also saw the houses destroyed in the school premises. ADGP M R Ajith Kumar explained about the rescue operations and the disaster.
After visiting the disaster area of Chooralmala for half an hour, the Prime Minister walked on the Bailey bridge. He walked through the bridge and spoke to the officials involved in the rescue mission. He also met the officers on the other side of the bridge.
After spending around 50 minutes at Chooralmala, the Prime Minister reached St. Joseph's School Camp in Meppadi and met the disaster victims directly. Modi will go to WIMS Hospital from there. He will later visit the disaster victims of Meppadi Government School. He will then go to Kalpatta Collectorate and attend the review meeting. Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, Governor Arif Muhammad Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan are also accompanying the Prime Minister.
