PARIS: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who was disqualified from the finals at the Paris Olympics due to weight gain, will hear the verdict on her appeal to the International Court of Sports till Tuesday. There were reports that the verdict might be delivered yesterday, but the court changed it. Vinesh appealed to share the silver medal.

Vinesh's appeal was contested for three hours, with arbitrator Annabelle Bennett hearing all sides in detail. Harish Salve, appearing for Vinesh, argued that there were only short breaks between matches and because of this the chances of failure in the weight test were very high. Salve pointed out the distance between the Olympic Village and the wrestling venue. Vinesh, who won three matches on the first day, has filed an appeal saying that she deserves the combined silver medal.

The US overtook China, which was in the lead from the beginning but now China is in the lead. At the end, China has secured 34 gold medals and the US has 33 gold medals. China has a total of 84 medals, including 27 silver and 23 bronze. The US is far ahead in total medal haul with over hundred medals. The US won a total of 113 medals, including 41 silver and 39 bronze. India is 69th in the medal tally.
