ALAPPUZHA: A newborn baby is suspected to have been killed and buried in Thakazhi. Two youths were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Ashok (23) of Thakazhi Kunnumma Bhavan in Alappuzha and Thomas (24) of Thakazhi Viripala Randu Para are the two arrested. A woman of Poochakkal in Alappuzha delivered the baby.

Thomas' girlfriend is studying in Ernakulam. She delivered the baby on August 4. Thomas and his friend Ashok took the the baby from her saying to abandon at Ammathottil. Reports said they killed the baby and buried in a place near Ashok’s house.

The woman sought treatment in the hospital after bleeding on August 8. When the doctor asked her what had happened, she told him that she had given birth. When the doctor asked her about the baby, she spoke contradictorily. On being suspicious, the hospital authorities informed the police.

The youths were arrested following an investigation conducted. Meantime, the youths told police that the baby was dead when they got it from her. The woman is unmarried. The police have recorded her statement. A detailed investigation has been started into the incident.
