NEW DELHI: Three-year-old Naisa (Rubia), who captured the heart of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Wayanad, has become the darling of the nation. Naisa's smiling face hugging Modi became a symbol of the survival of the people of Wayanad.

Naisa, who was injured in the landslide and is undergoing treatment at Meppadi Dr Moopens Medical College, has only her mother Jesila today. The tragedy took away all her close ones including her father and brothers. Naisa was stuck in the mud and was brought back to life by her relative. Jesila came to know about her daughter's survival when she was being treated for serious injuries.

Someone had told Naisa that she should say Namaste when the Prime Minister comes. When the Prime Minister arrived, Naisa folded her hands. Modi also folded his hands after saying Namaste. When Modi reached beside her and extended her hand, she also gave her hand. From the bedside, Modi held her close and patted her. Naisa grabbed Modi's beard and started playing with it. The scenes of Modi affectionately stroking Naisa, who was curiously playing with his face and glasses, delighted the entire nation. Modi spoke to Jesila and consoled her.

Naisa is playfully running around the hospital ward now. Jasila is coming to terms with her grief holding her daughter close.

They lived in the upper part of Chooralmala School Road. Naisa's father Shah Jahan, siblings Heena and Faiza, Mohammadkutty and Jasila, Mohammadkutty's brother Hamza and two grandchildren were swept away with the house.
