Once considered as a waned filmmaking attempt is now the talk of m-town. ‘Devadoothan’ released in 2000 amidst much ado was a box office disaster after people turned their back on the experimental thriller laced with the horror-mystery genre. The doom and the depression that followed were to be eradicated in 2024, 20 years after the makers decided to do a re-release of the film.
According to reports, the movie on its re-release has amassed Rs 5.2 crore, even beating the newer releases in the Malayalam industry. The movie even performed better than recent Malayalam movies such as ‘Ullozhukku’ and ‘Level Cross’. In just 17 days, the Mohanlal movie took Rs 5.2 crore into their coffers. Rs 4 crore came from the kerala collection, while the Rs 1.2 crore came from the rest of India and overseas.
In other news, another Mohanlal movie 'Manichitrathazhu' will make a return to theatres on August 17, thus joining the bandwagon of other vintage movie re-releases in Mollywood.
