THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A financial assistance of six lakh rupees each will be given to the dependents of those who died in the Chooralmala and Mundakkai landslides in Wayanad. This is after combining four lakhs from the State Disaster Relief Fund and two lakhs from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
Rs 75,000 will be given to those who have lost eyes, and limbs and victims who survived with more than 60% disability. Rs 50,000 each will be sanctioned to those who survived with 40% to 60% disability.
The decision was taken by the Cabinet meeting. As the first phase of rehabilitation, the affected people have been shifted from the camps to the rented houses arranged by the government. Those who were living in relatives' houses have also started coming to rented buildings. Accommodation has been made available in Meppadi, Muppainad, Vythiri, Kalpetta, Muttil and Ambalavayal areas.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said in a press conference that they will have to live in temporary places only till the township is completed and people will be helped to find a livelihood.
Assistance will be available to all those who are eligible, including those staying in camps, family homes and hospitals. The Chief Minister said that the process of calculating the loss and submitting the rehabilitation plan report to the Centre will be completed soon.
No need for a Succession Certificate
There is no need to register in the relief camps to be included in the resettlement scheme. No fee will be charged for replacement of lost certificates. 1368 certificates have been issued so far.
500 buildings temporarily set up
Government will provide Rs 6000 for monthly rent
A family will be given up to Rs 6,000 per month from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund as rent for shifting to rented houses. Those moving to relative houses will also get Rs 6000. No monthly rent will be paid to those who move into government-owned or other public-owned or privately-provided spaces or those who move into sponsored buildings.
