KOLKATA: The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has decided to launch a nationwide protest over the incident where a junior doctor was raped and murdered at a hospital in Kolkata. The Association has declared a 24-hour nationwide withdrawal of medical services starting 6 a.m. on Saturday till 6 a.m. on Sunday in protest against the incident. In a statement released by IMA president RV Asokan, the IMA stated that essential services, including casualty departments, will function normally on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the hospital in Kolkata, where the junior doctor was raped and murdered, witnessed shocking incidents yesterday. A group of assailants attacked the protesters and vandalised the hospital. They also attacked the police. The BJP alleged that the attack was carried out by the goons of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to destroy the evidence. Police have arrested 7 persons in connection with the incident. The CBI team conducted an inspection at the hospital.
