THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain across the state today, prompting the issuance of an Orange alert in Pathanamthitta and Idukki. Heavy rainfall in these areas could range between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm within 24 hours.

Additionally, a Yellow alert has been declared in several other districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. These districts could experience isolated heavy rainfall, defined as between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Thunderstorms are also anticipated.

The Central Meteorological Department has further indicated that there is a possibility of light rain in isolated areas of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod over the next three hours. Isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph, with a potential maximum of 50 kmph, are expected through August 19. In light of these weather conditions, fishing activities have been banned along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coasts.
