IDUKKI: A tragic incident unfolded in Udumbanchola, Idukki, where a two-month-old baby was found dead near a river in Chemmannar. The deceased child was the son of Chinchu, a local resident.

The baby’s body was found near the river close to the family’s home. The child's grandmother, Jansy, was found lying unconscious nearby. She was rushed to a private hospital in Kothamangalam for treatment. Both the baby and Jansy had been missing since the previous night, prompting concerned relatives to alert the police.

After an extensive search, authorities found the baby deceased by the river. Preliminary findings suggest that drowning was not the cause of death. The police have noted that Jansy has been giving contradictory statements, and there are indications that she may be suffering from mental health issues.

Police plan to conduct a detailed interrogation of Jansy once her health stabilizes. The investigation team is also considering the possibility of foul play. The exact cause of the baby’s death will be determined following the post-mortem examination.
