THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The report of the Justice Hema Committee appointed by the state government to study the problems faced by women in the film industry will not be released today. The government's decision came in the context of a petition filed in the High Court by actress Ranjini seeking to prevent the release of the report.

The actress approached the court seeking to ensure that there is no violation of privacy in the published report. The actress says that she has given her statement before the Hema Committee. The petition also points out that the report should be released by providing a copy to those who gave the statement. The High Court did not pass an interim order on the petition to stay the release of the report. The court has informed that it will consider the petition on Monday. After this, the government will take a decision on the matter.

It is indicated that the report contains statements against prominent figures in Malayalam cinema. Although there is no problem in the main part containing the findings and recommendations, it is indicated that there is some shocking information in the supplementary report. This section contains statements and documents given by women in the film industry against some prominent people. The Department of Culture has prepared an edited version of the report to be released to those requested under the RTI Act. The action is based on the judgment of the High Court.

State Information Commissioner Dr. AA Abdul Hakeem ordered the release of the report but clarified that paragraph 96 (page 49), paragraphs 165 to 196 of pages 81 to 100 and the appendix should not be released.
