THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a possibility of heavy rains in three districts of the state. Orange alert has been issued in Kottayam, Idukki and Kozhikode districts. Yellow alert has been sounded in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Malappuram, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam tomorrow.
The reason for the continuation of heavy rains in Kerala is due to the presence of cyclonic circulation over north Karnataka and Telangana and the presence of a low-pressure at a height of 1.5 km over Kerala and Tamil Nadu in the Comorin region
A chance of isolated heavy rain has been predicted. According to IMD, heavy rainfall means rainfall between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
People living in danger zones should be cautious as there is a possibility of rough seas along various coasts. At the necessary stage, you should move. Fishing conditions should be secured.
Residents of unsecured homes and those living in homes with weak roofs should be prepared to evacuate based on the warnings in the coming days.
Trees/posts/boards etc. standing in danger in private and public areas should be secured and trees should be trimmed. Dangerous conditions should be brought to the attention of the authorities. Under no circumstances should one cross river, enter rivers or other bodies of water for bathing, fishing or other purposes.
Viewing, taking selfies or congregating on the overpasses above the water bodies is not allowed. People living downstream of the dams should make preparations in anticipation of the possibility of water overflowing from the dams and evacuate, if necessary, as per the instructions of the authorities.
Avoid traveling at night to hilly areas completely. You should also be aware of the dangers of falling trees and falling posts in the wind.
