NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has taken a suo motu case over the murder of lady doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the case on Tuesday.

Two lawyers had written to the Chief Justice requesting the Supreme Court to voluntarily intervene in the incident. The female doctor who was a PG trainee of the chest medicine department of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was brutally raped and killed on August 9. There are strong protests across the country over the murder. Doctors are also protesting under the leadership of IMA demanding safety at work.

Meanwhile, the father of the murdered female doctor came forward against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The father said that protesting common people are being jailed and that the Chief Minister's moves cannot be accepted, "Everyone is fighting for justice. The investigation should proceed in the right way. My daughter needs justice," said the father.

The CBI had found that more accused were involved in the case. The CBI team interrogated five doctors of RG Kar Hospital. The CBI has found that the police's conclusion that there is only one accused in the case is wrong.
