THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned a possibility of heavy rains in the state today. Orange alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki. The warning is that there is a possibility of heavy rain in these places. Yellow alert is in Alappuzha, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur. Heavy rains are predicted at isolated places in yellow alert districts.

There is a warning that landslides, mudslides and flash floods are possible in the hilly areas and may cause flooding in the low-lying areas. Fishing is prohibited on Kerala coast. People living in danger zones should be careful as the storm surge is likely to be strong along various coasts. Should relocate if necessary. Fishing equipment should be kept safely.

Residents of unsecured homes and those living in homes with weak roofs should be prepared to evacuate based on the warnings in the coming days. The authorities warn that trees/posts/boards etc. standing in danger in private and public spaces should be secured and the trees should be trimmed.
