CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Congress came forward against Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s statement expressing his concern over the safety of the Mullaperiyar dam. The actor had said that the existence of the dam is a threat. Suresh Gopi’s statement was against the Supreme Court verdict. He is trying to take Kerala’s side unfairly, alleged Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K Selvaperunthagai. He asked whether Suresh Gopi is only the minister of Kerala.
Suresh Gopi had asked who will be answerable if the Mullaperiyar dam breaks. He also asked will the courts or those fighting legally will answer. He added that Kerala cannot afford to drown in tears anymore.
The question whether the dam would collapse or not stands like a thunderclap in the heart. Who will answer if it breaks? Will the courts answer? Those who take such decisions from the courts and continue the present situation with those decisions must answer. They have to answer what is the consequence of this. We can no longer drown in tears,' said Suresh Gopi.
