THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that various districts in the state are likely to receive heavy rainfall today and tomorrow. Following the rain warning, orange and yellow alerts have been issued for various districts today.

Orange alert
20/8/2024: Ernakulam and Idukki
21/8/2024: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad

Yellow alert
20/8/2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur and Palakkad
21/8/2024: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kannur and Kasargod

Isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts are likely to receive moderate rainfall accompanied by strong winds gusting up to 40 km/h in the next three hours.
Light rain is also expected in isolated areas of other districts.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the Southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep. Additionally, another cyclonic circulation is situated over North Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh. A low-pressure trough is also present from the central-eastern Arabian Sea to the Maldives, at a height of 0.9 kilometres. As a result, the IMD has warned of widespread moderate to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in Kerala for the next five days. Isolated areas may experience extremely heavy to heavy rainfall today and tomorrow, according to the forecast.

The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid fishing along the coasts of Kerala, Lakshadweep, and Karnataka.
