THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Some vital information about the 13-year-old girl, who went missing from Kazhakoottam, has surfaced. A picture of the girl found travelling in the train has been obtained. The police got the picture from a co- passenger, who was with her in the train.
The girl missing is Thasmin Beegum, eldest daughter of Anwar Hussain, living in a rented house near St Antony's School in Kazhakoottam. The girl left the house when her mother scolded her for quarrelling with her siblings.
It is hinted that the girl has gone to Kanyakumari. The police have left for Kanyakumari on the conclusion that she may be in Tamil Nadu. A five-member team, including women cops, have left for Tamil Nadu. The police received information that the girl was travelling on the Bengaluru-Kanyakumari Express and that she was in the train till Parassala. Babita, the passenger said that she captured her picture as she was seen crying in the train. The police came to the conclusion that she may have gone to Kanyakumari.
Babita said that she boarded the train from Thampanoor. The photo was taken in Neyyattinkara. The picture was taken as she was seen crying. The girl stopped crying when she saw us noticing her. She seemed to be brave. She was seen wearing clothes worn at home. This also led to a suspicion and we doubted she many have left home after a tiff. However, we could not talk to her.
She didn’t even look at our face. A passenger, also a friend of mine told me that she boarded the train from Thampanoor. The picture was taken at 1:30 pm on Tuesday. Her bag was dusty and felt it may have fallen somewhere. I got down at Neyyattinkara. As it was windy at night, got up early in the morning and when I saw the news on my phone, I understood that it was the girl whose picture I had captured. I informed the police at 4 am early Wednesday morning. My other friends got down at Parasala. They said that she was in the train till there. She had Rs 40 and a ticket in her hand,’ said Babita.
The incident happened around 10.15 am yesterday. She lives with her parents and two sisters in the house. Thasmin fought with her sisters aged six and nine in the morning. Anwar Hussain in the complaint to Kazhakoottam police stated that she left the house with some clothes after her mother scolded her for quarrelling with her sisters. Hussain and his wife are employees of a school nearby. The family came to Thiruvananthapuram in search of work a month ago.
When her parents came home for lunch, they understood that she was missing. When asked their daughters, they said that she left with some clothes in her bag. The school authorities said though Thasmin has been admitted to Kaniyapuram Muslim Girls High School in class 7, she had not attended classes so far. An investigation was conducted initially focusing on the CCTVs of the area, but the footage of the girl could not be found. The area is full of lanes which made the investigation challenging. She knows only Assamese language.
