MUMBAI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son and BCCI secretary Jai Shah may become the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). The 35-year-old Jai Shah is getting a chance after the current chairman Greg Barclay said that he is not interested in becoming the chairman for the third time. He informed the ICC directors that the term of the current ICC chairman will not continue till the month of November. The ICC chairman has a two-year term.

As early as last November, there were reports that Jaish Shah would be the next ICC chairman. After it was confirmed that Shah would contest, senior board directors Imran Khwaja and Tavengwa Mukulhani withdrew from the contest. Meanwhile, England and Australia cricket boards have expressed their support to Jai Shah, and the way has been prepared for Jai Shah to reach the position of chairman in December.

Jai Shah became BCCI secretary in 2019. He will not be able to reach the post of BCCI president till 2028. Meanwhile, he is coming to the International Cricket Council. The last date for submission of nomination papers is August 27. If more than one person submits papers, the election will be held.
