THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George declared the Nipah prevention in Malappuram a success. Restrictions have been lifted completely as the double incubation period of 42 days fixed by the Health Department has passed. 472 people who were on the contact list were removed from the list. The operation of the separate control room has been discontinued. "Nipah was confirmed only in the child who died. However, due to strong preventive measures, we were able to prevent the disease from spreading to others," the minister added.
Minister Veena George said vigilance should continue even after the double incubation period. The minister appreciated the entire team for working together. "It was because of their teamwork that they were able to prevent the Nipah virus from spreading to others. The child's death is a great loss," the minister said.
Preventive measures was intensified in Malappuram as Nipah virus was suspected. 25 Committees were formed as per Nipah guidelines for Nipah control. A 24-hour Nipah control room was set up. A Nipah contact list was prepared and the route map was published. Samples from all susceptible individuals were tested according to guidelines. Necessary intensive care facilities were also arranged at Manjeri Medical College and Kozhikode Medical College. Temporary restrictions were imposed in Pandikkad and Anakkayam panchayats. Special fever clinics were started at Wandoor, Nilambur and Karuvarakundu and mental health was ensured. The services of volunteers were made available to deliver food, medicine etc. to the homes of those under observation.
