PANAJI: There is more air than chips in a packet of lays, an incident that has been facing trolls for a long time. We think the packet is full of chips as it looks bulging, but the reality is that there are not even enough chips to fit in one hand. A youth has now shared an experience on social media of buying lays.

'I bought a packet of lays from a petrol pump in Goa when I was hungry. When I opened the packet, I got this surprise,' captioned the youth on his Reddit account and showed the picture of four pieces of lays. The picture and the post went viral immediately. Many comments criticized lays. Some advised the youth to file a case against such injustices as the packet contains only air. Some shared humorous comments.

'If reported this in consumer forum, you will get a big amount’, 'I understand your pain', 'can't even laugh', 'Do you get chips in lays packet? "I thought they were only making 'Chips Flavor Air' sold in plastic bags lately," one said, ‘I'm lucky. I got 50 chips from 50 packets,’ some commented.

The authorized weight of a packet of lays is 30 grams. However, very often only eight grams of lays are available in the packet. Earlier, when such a case came before the consumer education and research society, the court had ordered PepsiCo company to pay Rs 50,000 to the consumer welfare fund and a total compensation of Rs 7,000 to the consumer.
