KIEV: Prime Minister Narendra Modi clarified the policy on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict in Europe. Modi announced India's policy while speaking after his first visit to Ukraine. 'India is not neutral. We took sides from the start. We have chosen the side of peace. I have come from the land of Lord Buddha, where there is no place for war.' Modi said.

The Prime Minister's Office stated that Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky agreed on the willingness to abide by international legal principles, including the UN Charter and the need for bilateral discussions in this regard. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country after the formation of the country in 1991. He arrived in Ukraine by special train.

After the talks with Zelensky, Modi said that India is ready for any kind of talks to end the insurgency in Ukraine and that he is personally ready for it. Resolved to ask the India-Ukraine Inter-Governmental Commission to deepen and broaden India-Ukraine trade and economic relations to pre-conflict levels.

After holding talks with Ukrainian President Modi, a statement was also issued, focusing on strategic partnership between India and Ukraine, bilateral trade and military-technical cooperation.
