THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi has stepped into a quagmire just days before the start of his new film. Former Secretary General of the Lok Sabha PDT Achary revealed the code of conduct for the central and state ministers which will prohibit them from taking up any other work other than their official duties.
According to Achary, the prescribed laws won’t allow central government ministers to engage in any other works. The ministers are not even allowed leave to carry out their other work commitments. Alternate professions including teaching, movies, or doing any other such dual work are prohibited under the law.
After taking oath as a central minister, Suresh Gopi had promised about continuing his acting and also demanded money for inauguration ceremonies. The actor-turned-politician said he would do inauguration ceremonies as an actor but not a politician. However, Achary in his interview with another online channel said it would prove to be a tough task for Suresh Gopi to engage in dual roles while assuming a respected minister post within the union government. Achary also warned the Thrissur MP about violation of the code of conduct if he intended to proceed with his acting ventures.
“Only the Prime Minister has the power to amend this code of conduct. Or else the minister will have to get special permission from the prime minister to engage in other duties. However, this will pave the way for more such actors within the government to demand relaxation in their duties. The minister must serve the people and the country. All other commitments should be kept aside.” said Achary.
