THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With more and more actresses coming forward with explosive revelations of sexual misconduct, the government waited no time to announce an investigation into the matters circling the Malayalam film industry. A seven-member police team comprising six IPS officers and one SP was appointed.
The team headed by IG Sparjan Kumar includes DIG S Ajitha Begum, AIG G Poonkuzhali, SP Merin Joseph, Aishwarya Dongre, Madhusudhanan and V Ajith. The government, accused of hoarding the Hema Committee report for four and a half years, have now been forced to move with police action against the culprits involved. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has discussed the issue with DGP Sheikh Darvesh Sahib.
Director General of Prosecution TA Shaji has given legal advice that action can be taken based on the revelations in the context of the Hema Committee report. On September 10, the High Court will again consider the pleas related to the Hema Committee report. Moreover, the Kochi City Police Commissioner received a complaint from a resident of Vyttila on Sunday demanding that a case be filed against Siddique and Ranjith for sexual harassment.
The government after getting to know about this complaint, feared a setback from the public for being too late into action, so initiated an investigation just as a face-saving act.
1. The statement of those who made the disclosure will be recorded.
2. If the victims request that the confidential statement be recorded, it will be done so. The Hema Committee report will also be examined.
3. Further proceedings will be made according to the nature of the case. No immediate arrests are likely.
