CHENNAI: Actor Vishal, General Secretary of Nadigar Sangam, a prominent association of Tamil film stars, has called for an investigation similar to the Hema Committee's probe into the Malayalam film industry to be conducted in Tamil cinema as well. Vishal expressed that the organization will soon consider steps to initiate such an inquiry. His comments came in response to the Hema Committee report and the ensuing controversies.
"Some actresses face security issues and are forced to hire bouncers. Only 20 percent of actresses in Tamil cinema receive direct opportunities, while 80 percent fall into traps. This needs to be addressed. Just as the Hema Committee investigated the Malayalam film industry, there should be a similar investigation in Tamil cinema. Nadigar Sangam will soon deliberate on the necessary actions. The Nadigar Sangam is not just for men; it also stands for the women in Tamil cinema," Vishal stated.
Vishal further emphasized that strong action will be taken if women with complaints approach Nadigar Sangam. "They should be hit with a chappal the moment someone mentions 'adjustment is required.' These individuals can only be controlled if women respond firmly. Wrongdoers must be punished. Women in Tamil cinema should be brave enough to come forward and speak openly about their experiences. However, I am not the police to file a case," Vishal clarified.
