ALAPPUZHA: In a major incident of medical negligence, a woman had a bundle of cotton stitched into her abdomen after a caesarian. The police have registered a case against the woman doctor identified as Jain Jacob of Haripad Government Hospital for her lapse in performing the surgery. The cotton was stitched in the abdomen of a 28-year-old woman of Pennukkara in Alappuzha.


The woman was admitted to the hospital for labor pains on July 23. A caesarean section was performed and the baby was taken out. The woman had some issues later. She developed uneasiness and her whole body was swollen. However, the baby was fine and healthy. After her blood clotted, she was given blood brought from Vandanam Medical College. However, she started bleeding on July 26.


The woman was taken to Vandanam Medical College on 27th and after scanning, a surgery was performed. Authorities did not disclose the details of the scanning. A surgery was also performed later. Medical waste including cotton and cloth was taken out from the woman's stomach. The woman's mother lodged a complaint with the health minister. The hospital authorities have not made any official response on the matter.
