LUCKNOW: Two persons have been arrested regarding the suicide of Dalit girls in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad. They were arrested on charges of inciting suicide. The 15- and 16-year-old girls were found hanging from a tree last Tuesday. Police took Pawan and Deepak into custody on the complaint of family members. Their arrest was recorded after interrogation. The FIR also states that the girls had spoken to the accused before the incident.

The girls who lived in adjoining houses were best friends. The girls had gone to a nearby temple around 10 pm last Monday on the occasion of Janmashtami. Later they were found hanging from a tree with two shawls tied together. A SIM card was recovered from the clothes of the younger girl. On investigation, it was found that the SIM card belonged to Deepak. The girls used this SIM card to talk to the accused for hours. According to the police, this SIM was removed and the call list was deleted.
The girl's father has alleged in the complaint that Deepak and Pawan used to abuse the children. Postmortem confirmed that the girl committed suicide. Police officials said that no injuries were found on the bodies of the two girls. There was widespread protest over the incident.
