TEL AVIV: World Health Organization said that Israel is ready for a partial ceasefire for providing polio vaccines to children in Gaza. There will be a ceasefire from Sunday till September 3. Officials said that 1.2 million vaccine doses have already arrived in Gaza as part of the drive. Vaccine will be given to six and a half lakh children. Efforts are being made to distribute the vaccine by deputing around 7,000 health workers.
The World Health Organization had warned that there is a possibility of diseases spreading in Gaza due to the lack of vaccination. Ceasefire was decided in the discussion with Israel following this. The ceasefire will be from 6 am to 3 pm for three days in Central Gaza followed by Southern Gaza and Northern Gaza. Rik Peeperkorn, the representative of Gaza, announced that the ceasefire would happen after dividing Gaza into different zones. The organization also said that the aim is to give the vaccine to around 6.40 lakh children below the age of ten years. Rik Peeperkorn said that the necessary equipment to administer the vaccine will be delivered to Gaza by Sunday. Polio was reported in Gaza after 25 years. The organization expressed concern over the re-emergence of polio in Gaza, which has been eradicated by many countries. The WHO also requested that polio vaccine should be given to children urgently.
