THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM is defending Mukesh, the accused in the actress sexual abuse case. The decision of the party is that Mukesh need not resign as MLA. There are also reports that the party have directed him not to respond publicly.

The state secretariat had earlier accepted Mukesh's argument that the case against him was fabricated. The leaders also supported Mukesh in the state committee meeting.
A sharp criticism was raised against Mukesh in the CPM Kollam district committee meet. However, Mukesh had explained to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that the allegation against him was a conspiracy and that he has evidence to prove it in the court.

Moreover, when Congress MLAs Eldos Kunnappilly and M Vincent, involved in sexual abuse case, remain in their positions, the question was raised as to why the Left MLA should resign.

However, many including politburo member Vrinda Karat, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam and CPI leader Annie Raja said that his resignation was necessary to uphold the women's approach of the Left.

After the Ernakulam Maradu police filed a case against Mukesh under the non-bailable section on the actress' complaint, the leaders came forward demanding his resignation. Moreover, there was widespread protests against Mukesh.
