KOCHI: FEFKA General Secretary and director B. Unnikrishnan has revealed that a proposal for a joint media briefing involving all major film industry organizations was blocked due to opposition from certain members of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). This was in response to criticism that FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala) has remained silent on the controversial Hema Committee report.

Unnikrishnan stated that after the report was released, FEFKA, along with AMMA, the Producers Association, and other film industry bodies, had agreed that a unified response was necessary as the findings had significant implications for the industry. He put forward a suggestion to hold a joint press conference, which received initial support from AMMA President Mohanlal and actor Mammootty. However, the proposal was ultimately derailed by strong opposition from some AMMA members.

"At that time, several of those who opposed the joint briefing later appeared before the media, projecting a progressive stance," Unnikrishnan remarked, hinting at the conflicting positions within the organization.

Reiterating FEFKA's stance, Unnikrishnan emphasized the organization's demand for the full disclosure of the names of the accused in the report. "Only FEFKA has made such a demand. All accused must go through the legal process. If a police investigation results in a guilty report, court citation, or arrest, the member in question will be immediately expelled from FEFKA. They can only be reinstated upon proving their innocence," he stated.
