THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM independent MLA PV Anwar's allegation bomb shook Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's office and home department on Sunday. Anwar alleged that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, who is in charge of law and order, has killed people in connection with gold smuggling in Karipur and hero-worships yesteryear underworld criminal Dawood Ibrahim.
Another allegation was targeted at Political Secretary P. Sashi, who according to Anwar connived in the crime and is pushing Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan into danger. Pathanamthitta S.P. Sujith Das was also accused of extorting gold from smuggling gangs in Karipur.
The Home Department submitted a report to the Chief Minister demanding the removal of two officers from the charge of law and order after the allegations tainted the government's credibility. The Chief Minister sought a report from DGP Darvesh Saheb. It is known that both the officers might be removed from the position. Meanwhile, the government and the Left Front went on the defensive after the opposition ramped up protests demanding the resignation of CM Pinarayi Vijayan, who also heads the home ministry.
Anwar's disclosure confirms the opposition's allegation about Home Department being run by a secret gang including P Sashi and Ajith Kumar.
Anwar continued his allegations on Sunday despite getting warned by CPM for protesting in front of Malappuram SP's office on Saturday.
Anwar, a two-time independent candidate from Nilambur, has only a slim chance of getting a ticket for the upcoming assembly election. It is rumoured that ADGP MR Ajith Kumar, who was confined to Malabar during the first Pinarayi government, saw immediate career success after P Sasi took the helm of the Chief Minister's office in the second government.
