Actress Ponnamma Babu reacted to the statement of Hema Commission report that there is a power group in the Malayalam film industry. In an interview to Kaumudy Movies, Ponnamma Babu said that there is no such thing in Malayalam films and there is no power group among us. ‘If there is such a power group, it is our Lalettan and Mammooka,’ she said smilingly. She also revealed some things about the Hema Commission report and the work of Women in Collective Cinema (WCC).
Her words
‘When the Hema Commission report was being prepared, none from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) was called. They didn’t call anyone of us. Only female junior artists had gone before the Hema Commission. They should not be assaulted either. They are also women. I will not support the offenders. They know I'll react. We are with the survivor.
However, there are 222 women in AMMA. The commission had not summoned any of us. None had collected our statements. I don't even know if they had called anyone without my knowledge. As far as I know, no one in AMMA was called. Other people have gone. Our siblings are in WCC. They didn't call us when they formed WCC. When this started, Mammookka told us that an organization is starting. If you have anything to say, should inform them. Mammookka had supported it then.
When they formed the organization, shouldn't they include people like us? The members of AMMA helped us when women including us face any difficulty. They went out and formed an organization and have they wiped a girl's tears. They have not taken any initiative, they considered things like sexual assault on the sets. They have created just that one incident. They were not seen in any other thing, she said.
She also answered the question whether there is a power group in the film industry. ‘There is no power group among us. If there is any, it is our Lalettan and Mammookka. Our power group is AMMA consisting of Mammookka and Lalettan. Simply saying all these. Lalettan and Mammooka is our power group,’ she said.
