THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “Don't leave me with them...I will go to school from here...I will also learn Malayalam” The long wailing from the Assam girl moved the child welfare committee members.

Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Shaniba Begum termed the girl's meeting with her parents as exasperating. The one-week-long counselling for the girl child ended on Monday. The child was brought to the CWC around noon and in attendance were her parents, eager to take their daughter home. The committee allowed the girl to interact with her parents but when it came to going back home, the girl started crying.

The father's demeanour changed into frustration when the girl remained stern about her decision. She then held firm onto Shaniba Begum and started crying which created emotional scenes in the office. With all efforts from parents going futile, the Committee decided to send the girl to CWC care.

The committee called the police when the father prevented the child from leaving the hall. The child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee under police protection at around 2.30 pm. Chairperson Shaniba Begum stated that they will meet the parents after three days and will express willingness to take over their two younger children.

It was on August 20th that the girl went missing after quarrelling with her mother. After some 37 horus of intensive searching, the girl was found at Visakhapatbnama station by some members of Malayali association. Since then she has been under CWC care. The girl has repeatedly expressed her desire to live with CWC rather than go back home, where she fears torture from her mother.
