THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former actress Soumya said that she had bad experiences from Malayalam cinema and the name of the actor who misbehaved was mentioned in the Hema committee report. The revelation was made in an interview given to Lakshmy Ramakrishnan.
“I was 18 and in my first year of college. I came from a very sheltered background and my parents knew nothing about movies. This opportunity (to act in a Tamil film) came through my college theatre contact. As a child I was enamored by the actor Revathy, who lived near my house at that time. I was in a fantasy world. So I went for a screen test with this couple. I was a child, I didn’t know much," Soumya said in the interview.
Soumya said that the director had told her father that a lot of money was spent on her screen test and implied that her family had been coerced into allowing her to act. “I said I wasn’t comfortable with the man. I said this at my first meeting. However, I felt “obligated” to perform."
'He had said that he sees me like his own daughter. His daughter had accused him of sexual misconduct but they said it was a lie. He abused me physically and mentally for a year. He raped me. I was brutally sexually abused, including having a rod inserted into my genitals for his entertainment. I had to live as his sex slave for about a year. He messed with my brain'
"A co-star who sexually abused me has now been named in the Hema Committee report. Directors, actors, and technicians abused me. There were also rights violations. One person spat pan on me." Soumya clarified.
