THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Governor Arif Khan on Sunday annulled the Calicut University decision allowing additional marks to Calicut University Assistant Professor and former leader of SFI, K Diana.

Diana, working as an assistant professor in the Department of Women's Studies on a contract basis, was given additional marks (17 marks) in the MA exam after eight years. The governor cancelled the extra marks on a complaint filed by Save University Campaign Committee Chairman RS Sasikumar. The Governor heard the arguments of Calicut University Registrar Dr KE Satish, Diana and others.

Diana attended the exam based on a special order from the university allowing relaxation in attendance as she was having less than 75 per cent. In the complaint, it was pointed out that she received additional marks after eight years in the form of internal marks, which is a violation of the rules approved by the Academic Council.

The complaint also states that the marks were given under the guise of political influence. The governor expressed displeasure with the registrar's explanation about the university not having accurate records of students' attendance thus deciding to give attendance marks to absentees.
