THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The district medical officer has given a statement regarding the water supply disruption in the capital city. The DMO asked the officials to ensure that the available water remains safe and purified for use among residents.

The available water should be collected in tanks or large vessels and used after chlorination (5g bleaching powder per 1000 litres should be mixed and poured). Residents should also ensure that drinking water is boiled.

According to the report, only clean chlorinated water should be used for cooking, cleaning utensils and cleaning hands and mouth.

Children, bedridden patients and the elderly should be given boiled water to wash their mouths and hands. Hoteliers and street vendors should use only chlorinated water for cooking and cleaning utensils.

The notification also states that chlorinated water should be used to clean hands and mouth before and after eating.
