NEW DELHI: The condition of CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury undergoing treatment at AIIMS Hospital in Delhi, continues to be critical following an acute respiratory tract infection. The CPM in a release said that he is on ventilator and his condition is being closely monitored by a team of doctors.


Yechury was admitted to AIIMS on August 19 following high fever. The party informed two days ago that his health condition was improving. His condition turned worse later.
CPM state secretary M V Govindan will go to Delhi today to visit Yechury. Govindan said Yechury's health condition is bad and he is in constant touch with the party leaders in Delhi.


Yechury was appointed as party general secretary in 2015 after Prakash Karat. In the recent Lok Sabha elections, Yechury was active as a star of the CPM and India Front.


His elder son Ashish had died of Covid earlier. 35-year-old Ashish was a journalist in Delhi. Ashish, who was infected with Covid, was initially admitted to Holy Family Hospital. His health deteriorated later and was shifted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. He died while undergoing treatment there. Ashish had worked in some leading dailies.
