KOZHIKODE: A stillbirth case was reported in Kozhikode while the family of the mother alleged medical negligence to be the reason. The allegation is against a private hospital in Ulliyeri. The newborn’s mother, Unnikulam native Aswathy (35) also died on Friday evening while undergoing treatment. The newborn died on Thursday morning.

Aswathy was brought to the hospital on the 7th of this month for delivery. However, she failed to get labour pain so the doctors administered her special medicines. It proved to be of little effect so the doctors again provided her medicines on Wednesday. By afternoon the pain started and soon it turned unbearable. Aswathy pleaded for a C-section but the doctors stood adamant about going for a normal delivery.

The bystanders also revealed hearing Aswathy’s cries from a nearby room. Soon after, the family members saw Aswathy being taken away on a stretcher. When enquired, the medical officials revealed that she had a terrible uterus prolapse, leading to the death of the newborn. The doctors asked for consent from the family to remove the uterus to sustain Aswathy’s life. Aswathy was put on life support and doctors had warned about her worsening health situvation.

Relatives alleged medical negligence as the doctors denied C-section despite pleading from Aswathy.
